The center-right coalition won quite a tough stance on Russia’s actions in the Ukraine. Despite the economic crisis in the country, the main issue that interested voters was security on the background of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Russia denies any involvement in the conflict, but Latvia, which is a NATO member, is concerned about the actions of Moscow.

Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma said that the crisis in Ukraine has changed this election.

The former Soviet republic, now a member of NATO and the EU supported the sanctions against Moscow because of the Russian annexation of the Crimea and the Moscow’s support of the separatists in the east of Ukraine.
