Turkey could otherwise react to the Su-24, if I knew that the bomber belongs to Russia. The president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in an interview with France-24.
«If we knew that it was a Russian plane, perhaps warned him otherwise,” – he said. Turkish president earlier explained that the military’s actions were dictated by the guidelines.
Erdogan also said that after the incident he was trying to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin, but he did not respond to his call.
On the eve of the Turkish General Staff said that the affiliation of the Su-24 at the time of the attack was unknown. Office held consultations with the Russian military attache in Ankara. The military explained that the rules of the response were implemented after the plane did not respond to what warnings.
At the same time later a spokesman for the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, he said Moscow was still awaiting “realistic” explanation of what happened. “We value our bilateral relationship – partnership, mutually beneficial and promising, and, of course, we are still waiting for a realistic explanation from the Turkish side,” – he said.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that Russian authorities have not received an official apology from Turkey in connection with an event. Thereafter, Erdogan said that Ankara is not going to apologize to Moscow. According to him, an apology should bring the party that invaded the country’s airspace.
The Su-24 was shot down by the morning of November 24th. According to Ankara, the attack by the Turkish Air Force occurred after the crew did not respond to repeated warnings. On the eve of the Turkish military issued an audio recording in which supposedly sounds an appeal to the Russian pilots with the requirement to leave the country’s airspace, but the Russian Foreign Ministry called it the installation.
Russian Ministry of Defense claims that the Su-24 does not intrude into the space of Turkey and was shot down over the territory of Syria. According to the agency, this is confirmed by “objective control data.”
