Actor George Clooney and lawyer Amal Alamuddin were married in Venice – RBC

53-year-old Clooney and 36-year-old Alamuddin were married on Saturday in Venice. According to Reuters, on this day, Venice has become a “Hollywood on the Adriatic.” Among the guests were Matt Damon and Ellen Barkin, model Cindy Crawford, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, singer Bono. The main party was held at the seven-star hotel Aman Canal Grande Venice, located in the building of the XVI century Palazzo Papadopoli on the Grand Canal.

Alamuddin and Clooney, who has vowed never to marry after his divorce in 1992 with actress Talia Balsom, announced their upcoming wedding in August. According to media reports, Amal familiar with Clooney since October 2013, and in April, they confirmed that they are engaged.

Amal Alamuddin specializes in matters relating to the protection of human rights. She represented the European Court of Human Rights interests of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, when Sweden demanded his extradition.

Alamuddin also was a counselor of the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to resolve the conflict in Syria. Clooney, known for his active civil position, has repeatedly made public statements on the conflict in Syria. Clooney has also recently worked as a lawyer refugees in Darfur (Sudan).
