The EU should recognize that anti-Russian sanctions do not benefit Europe, so they need to be abolished. This opinion was expressed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in an interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt. The text was published on the government website.
“We must find the courage and admit that it is time to stop the economic sanctions that do not lead to anything good for either Europe or the Russian Federation”, – Medvedev said. “Our country is ready for this, but once again I emphasize, we are waiting for the first step of our colleagues from the European Union”, – said the prime minister
.
Russia and the West have deteriorated over the situation in Ukraine. At the end of July 2014 the EU and the United States from the point of sanctions against certain individuals and companies have moved to the measures against entire sectors of the Russian economy. In response, Russia restricted imports of food products from countries that have imposed sanctions against her. In June 2015, in response to the extension of sanctions Russia prolonged the grocery embargo for a year – until August 5, 2016.
