President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said about the importance of creating a single local Orthodox Church.
“It is obvious that in the current situation many believers is difficult to agree with the existing separation of Ukrainian Orthodoxy. Of course, I fundamentally do not accept that the state interfered with – and I will not allow it – in inter-church relations. This is a matter of believers and churches. But to ignore the will of the people is also worthless, as well as to prevent unacceptable interference in the processes of another country “, – he said during a meeting with representatives of Ukrainian Council of Churches and religious organizations

The President, referring to the data of opinion polls, said that the growing number of Orthodox Citizens of Ukraine want to have a single local autocephalous church “church, the Eucharistic prayer and a united and very important – administratively independent from other States»
.
At present, Ukraine has Ukrainian Orthodox Church, led by Patriarch Filaret (Kyiv Patriarchate), a small Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, and a fairly large Ukrainian Orthodox Church, located in the department of the Moscow Patriarchate as part of the ROC. Canonical is now recognized only the latest.
