MOSCOW, January 6 – RIA Novosti. The Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill began the night Christmas service in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
On the Patriarchal service in the main temple of Russia was attended by thousands of believers. Among those present at the service – Member of the Federation Council and State Duma deputies and other senior officials.

Christmas Holiday on the night of January 7 (new style), together with the Russian Orthodox Church met with three local churches (Jerusalem, Serbian and Georgian Orthodox), and as Athos monasteries (in Greece), Eastern-rite Catholics and some Protestants who hold the Julian calendar.
According to the church charter, Christmas is preceded by a multi-day fasting (November 28), followed by the holiday comes yuletide (holy days) – time of special spiritual joy and to continue the celebration. These days, from 8 to 17 January, canceled day posts on Wednesdays and Fridays.
