The CIS countries have agreed to jointly guard the border – BBC Russian

Participants of the meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State in Kazakhstan have agreed on the possibility of forming a joint force of defense of the borders of the Commonwealth in the event of a crisis situation.

In the negotiations at the resort Burabay in 250 kilometers from Astana involved the presidents of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Moldova at the summit is the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Turkmenistan – Deputy Prime Minister, Ukraine – Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine in Kazakhstan.

One of the main topics of the summit was the situation in Afghanistan, which Russian President Vladimir Putin called the near-critical.

“The terrorists of all stripes are gaining more and more influence and do not hide plans for further expansion. One of their goals – to break into the Central Asian region. It is important to be prepared in concert to respond to such a scenario, “- he said at a meeting of the Council.

According to Putin, this will contribute to the new program of cooperation in strengthening Border security in the years 2016-2020. “It provides for the possibility of forming groups of border and other agencies of the Commonwealth countries to resolve the crisis on the border,” – said the Russian leader.

According to Interfax, the leaders of the CIS countries signed a total of 16 documents, including a statement on the fight international terrorism and the conception of military cooperation till 2020.

The summit was marked by a diplomatic scandal: on the eve of President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the joint briefing with President Vladimir Putin expressed his concerns about the situation on the Turkmen-Afghan border.

Ashgabat quoted Nazarbayev caused a strong reaction. Those present at the summit, Turkmen diplomats protested, stating that the statements of the Kazakh side about the situation in the Turkmen border are untrue.
