The same decree Ukrainian head of state declared null and void the decree of ex-President Leonid Kuchma, according to which, in the country on February 23 as well as in Russia, celebrated the Day of Defender of the Fatherland.
From the decree Poroshenko : «C the purpose of honoring the courage and heroism of the defenders of the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, military traditions and triumphs of the Ukrainian people, contributing to the further strengthening of patriotic spirit in the community and in support of public initiatives, I decree to establish in Ukraine holiday ?? Day of the Defenders of Ukraine, which is celebrated annually on October 14 ».
As you know, October 14, the Day of Ukrainian Cossacks, and the anniversary of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. Ukrainian nationalists for several years were demanding to declare the day a national holiday.
