Russia introduced a UN Security Council draft resolution on its own Malaysian Boeing crash in eastern Ukraine. According to Tass said Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin.
According to the diplomat, to discuss the Russian project would be convened a closed meeting, which will take place at 22:00 MSK. Churkin said that Russia opposes the establishment of a tribunal to prosecute persons involved in the sinking of a passenger ship. He stressed that this accident is a criminal offense, not a “threat to international peace and security”, as stated in the draft resolution submitted by Malaysia.
Earlier, Churkin said that the Malaysian initiative is contrary to the UN Charter. “We believe that the Security Council should not deal in these situations,” – he said.
Malaysia sent to the UN Security Council a draft resolution on July 14. It was supported by the Netherlands and Australia, whose citizens were victims of the crash, as well as Ukraine and Belgium. All these countries are part of a Joint investigation team that is trying to establish the cause of the crash.
