In Germany, 10,000 people evacuated because of a bomb during the Second World War – RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, August 30 – RIA Novosti. The authorities of the German city of Koblenz began evacuating about ten thousand people because of the threat of explosion tysyachekilogrammovoy bomb during World War II, found in the city, according Broadcasting Corporation Suedwestrundfunk (SWR).

The evacuation began on Sunday at 07.00 local time (08.00 MSK) and touched the residents whose homes are within 800 meters from a possible site of the explosion. The number of people to be evacuated, were also residents of the nursing home and the staff of the local police department.

Every year in Germany neutralized with about 5.5 thousand pieces of unexploded ordnance. Total to Germany during the war was dropped over 2 million bombs, about 5% of them – about 100,000 – did not explode.

Most of the bombs were dropped on Berlin (over 68 tons), Hamburg (45 tons), as well as the territory of the Ruhr area (approximately 162 thousand tons).
