In Russia until 2017, will create a new Arctic Command “North”, consisting of two brigades. On it informs RIA Novosti reported with reference to the Chief of the Land Forces, Colonel General Oleg Salyukova.
According to him, the creation of such cross-species grouping of forces was due to the need to promote the interests of the Russian Federation in the Arctic. Salyukov noted that now completes the formation of the first separate motorized rifle brigade of the Arctic near Murmansk, the second – will be created in 2016 in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District.
The main objectives of these compounds will be patrolling the coastal zone, security facilities and areas along the coast of the Arctic Ocean, escorting ships through the Northern Sea Route, as well as a demonstration of its military presence in the region.
«Arctic Connection will feature vysokoprohodimymi vehicles: two-tier conveyors, snowmobiles, hovercraft” – said Colonel-General.
