In New York ended the first since the summer of 2013 a bilateral meeting with US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The two leaders countries met at the UN Headquarters on the margins of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Immediately after talks with US President Vladimir Putin said that the focus of the talks was the situation in Syria and Russia’s participation in the settlement of this conflict, as well as the conflict in the east of Ukraine.

The negotiations lasted almost twice as long as planned 55 minutes. According to the representative of the American administration, half the time, the parties have devoted the situation in Ukraine, and the other half – the Syrian conflict. The Russian president called the meeting very useful and frank.

“Today’s conversation, I said, was very constructive, businesslike and surprisingly very frank”, – the Russian leader said to journalists.

According to predstavil the White House, Barack Obama expressed Putin concern progress of achievements in Minsk agreement on the settlement of the conflict in the east of Ukraine and, in particular, the intentions of management breakaway DNI and LC to hold local elections.

With regard to the situation in Syria, Putin said after the talks that his fate should decide themselves Syrians. He ruled out the participation of Russian troops in ground operations in Syria.

Vladimir Putin, however, confirmed that the system is considered the possibility of Russia’s participation in air operations against the IG. But, he said, these operations must comply with international standards: to hold them in Syria, according to Putin, should a request of the Syrian government.

The Russian president said that Moscow is ready to restore deteriorated in recent years relations with Washington.

“We are always ready to develop relations, to restore them to the full,” – he told reporters after a meeting with Barack Obama.

Earlier, the two presidents were from the rostrum of the Assembly and expressed diametrically opposite views on several critical issues, including – on the Syrian issue.

Barack Obama said that the settlement of the Syrian conflict is impossible, as long as power is Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Vladimir Putin called to support President Assad, because, in his opinion, it is the only legitimate leader of the country.

The Russian president called the mistake the US refusal to cooperate with the actions of the Syrian authorities, who According to the Russian president, “real fight against terrorism”.

However, according to Obama, waging war against its own people, Bashar Assad is not able to contribute to reconciliation in Syria, and that after all of his crimes going back to Syrian dictator there.

Obama called for an orderly transition of power in Syria to a different policy.

At the same time, Obama and Putin stressed the importance of joint fight against “Islamic state”.
