“Syriza” headed by Tsipras again won the elections in Greece – BBC Russian

An estimated 60% of the ballots, which is now in power in Greece left coalition “Syriza” the former prime minister Alexis Tsipras won 35% of the votes in the parliamentary elections. In the conservative “New Democracy” – 28% of the vote.

” Syriza “will have approximately 144 seats out of 300 in Parliament, and the opposition will take only 75 seats.

However, “Syriza” will unite with other political forces in order to form a government.

The campaign was relatively sluggish, as opposed to emotional campaign in January. The turnout was just over 55% – lower than in the elections in January, when the site reached 63% of the voters.

Tsipras called the election results “a victory of the people”, saying that his decision to hold early elections was justified, and that he and his party received a mandate of four years.

According to Tsipras, he intends to form a government in coalition with the nationalist party “Independent Greeks”.

“Together we will continue the fight begun by us seven months ago,” – said Tsipras.

The policy of the new government has already predetermined by the terms of the agreement of Greece with its creditors as part of the third package of emergency financial assistance.

The popularity of the leader of “Syriza” sharply dropped when he agreed to a deal with international lenders on a new financial aid package.

Terms of the agreement include the austerity measures against which initially acted “Syriza”.
