new revelation could again strain relations between Berlin and Washington

The National Security Agency (NSA), the United States for many years tapped telephone conversations of Chancellor Angela Merkel, its employees, as well as her predecessors Gerhard Schroeder and Helmut Kohl, Reuters reported with reference to WikiLeaks. The source of the previous revelations of espionage activities against the Chancellor was a former consultant NSA Edward Snowden. However, new documents submitted clarify the scope of this activity.

According to the three documents disclosed WikiLeaks, the US agency has long monitored the 125 rooms of dignitaries Germany. Among them were employees of the phone close head of state.

Three presented records of conversations are dated 2009 and 2011. Angela Merkel says the financial crisis of 2009, the crisis of the euro zone in 2011 and the relationship with Iran while interacting with the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates.

New unmasking could again strain relations between Berlin and Washington after the German and American leaders have recently expressed the desire to eliminate the friction on the previous history of espionage.
