The meeting of leaders of the “Norman Quartet” (France, Germany, Russia, and Ukraine) will be held in Paris in early October. This was announced by the Elysee Palace at the end of the telephone talks between the heads of the four countries, which lasted half an hour. Personal meeting will be held in Paris on October 2, said the press service of the Kremlin .
French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during telephone conversations have come to believe that the ceasefire in the Donbass is generally respected, said the Elysee Palace. A truce has been declared in the Donbass September 1st.
“They emphasized their commitment to make every effort to ensure that this situation has continued to be maintained and the special mission of observers received constant, unimpeded and secure access to the relevant areas”, – quotes the message of the Elysee Palace TASS.
The leaders called on “to reach as soon as an agreement on withdrawal of weapons caliber of less than 100 millimeters,” completely withdraw heavy weapons, “to determine the date of the elections in the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk,” and “to make progress in the exchange of prisoners, and provide free access to them by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross. ”
In the press service of the Russian president stated that Putin “has once again stressed the need for the speedy establishment of a full-fledged direct dialogue between representatives of the Kiev authorities and the south-east.”
The leaders of the “Norman Quartet” on the results of the negotiations requested Foreign Ministers of the countries “to make concrete proposals on all these issues” at the upcoming ministerial meeting of 12 September in Berlin. These proposals can then be considered at the summit meeting, which will take place at the invitation of Hollande in Paris in early October.
