The representatives of the EU countries in Brussels recommended to extend for six months the sanctions against individuals and entities, imposed because of the position of Russia in the Crimea and Ukraine, said on his twitter correspondent of “Radio Liberty” Rickard Yozvyak.
On to journalists, the approval of the extension of sanctions to be held in mid-September at a meeting of foreign ministers of the European Union.
Targeted sanctions against individuals and companies were introduced in March 2014 after the annexation of Crimea to Russia. In March 2015 the restrictions were extended until 15 September. The reason for these measures was the aggravation of confrontation between the Ukrainian forces and militias in the beginning of the year.
The sanctions apply to 150 individuals and 37 companies. They will be extended until March 15, 2016.
The intention to extend the European Union sanctions, diplomatic sources said on the eve of The Wall Street Journal. With the help of restrictive measures Brussels, according to the source publication, try to “keep the pressure on Moscow to achieve full implementation of the end of the year the Minsk agreement on a cease-fire.”
