In the capital of Azerbaijan held the opening ceremony of the first European Games. Spectacular show was held at the stadium “Olympic”, which was built specially for the competition, its grandstand can accommodate 68,000 people. Competitions will be held from 12 to 28 June, involving over six thousand athletes from 50 countries, including 355 Russians. In total during the Games will be played 253 sets of medals in 20 sports.
Fire games after inking performance sparked a two-time Paralympic champion in judo champion Ilham Zakiev Youth Games 2014 Taekwondo Said Guliyev. Russian team at the stadium brought the team captain, freestyle wrestler, Olympic champion and five-time world champion Hadzhimurad Gatsalov. Honorary guests of the opening ceremony began, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach.
