In the State Duma introduced a bill to postpone the federal parliamentary elections in December of September 18, 2016, RBC announced Secretary of the General Council of the party “United Russia” Sergei Neverov. The document was signed by the leaders of the three factions of Vladimir Vasiliev (“United Russia”), Sergei Mironov (“Fair Russia “) and Vladimir Zhirinovsky (LDPR), and State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin. Information on the website of the State Duma the draft law is not yet available.

A source close to the presidential administration, told RBC that in this case the work of the State Duma of the old convocation will end in late October (one month after the election), that is, its term of office will be reduced by six weeks.

The interlocutor RBC, close to the authors of the bill, explained that the main amendment introduced to the law on elections of deputies of the State Duma. It prescribes that the elections to the State Duma held the third Sunday of September of that year, when the constitutional deadline expires on convocation of the State Duma. The amendment also states that in the year of election of the State Duma elections at the level of regional legislatures and governors are held on the day of elections to the lower house of parliament, he added. According to him, technical amendments are also being made to the law on basic guarantees of electoral rights.
