Syrian President Bashar Assad in an interview with Russian media said the causes of the Syrian conflict, the impact of the war in Iraq on the situation in Damascus and events, become a turning point for the country.

US actions led to the division of Iraq on sectarian basis, which partially affected the situation in Syria and simplified the problem of incitement to inter-confessional conflict, said Assad.

“You may be surprised when I say that the turning point point in the previous Syrian crisis events was the 2003 war in Iraq, when there invaded by the United States. We are categorically against this aggression, as we understand that this will lead to a split in society, the growth of contradictions in society, “- said Assad.

The second, equally important turning point, the president of Syria, was the support that the West is officially provided to terrorists in Afghanistan in the early 1980s, calling them “freedom fighters”.
