Britain and the EU extended a day negotiations on EU membership – RIA Novosti

LONDON, February 1 – RIA Novosti. UK and the EU extended by 24 hours of the procedure for approving the terms of membership of the United Kingdom in the European Union before a detailed list of British demands to be published, Prime Minister David Cameron .

“The meeting with the President of the European Council went well, it agreed to extend the talks for another 24 hours before the list of claims the UK will be published,” – wrote Cameron on Twitter after a meeting with the head of the European Council, Donald Tusk.

On Sunday, Tusk and Cameron talked for about two hours at the residence of the British prime minister in London. After the meeting, Tusk made no statement, except for the phrase “no deal” in response to questions waiting for its release of journalists.

On Sunday afternoon a senior official in the Cabinet told British media that Cameron will use a meeting with Tusk to announce the new requirements of the EU in terms of tightening already developing EU programs to restrict access intra-European migrant workers to social benefits.

Cameron in the negotiations with the EU to change the terms of membership in Britain in the union demands to give United Kingdom law does not pay social security benefits for migrants from the EU during the first four years after their arrival. So he wants to reduce the number of migrants enjoy the benefits of the British social system. The EU does not agree with this option, but made a counter-proposal, providing for more lenient measures against migrants. Now the European Union is developing a system which has received in the media nickname “emergency brake” that would allow the UK and any other country in the EU to restrict access to social benefits of migrants from other EU states if it will be possible to justify the excessive burden on the social system.

UK referendum on the preservation of EU membership should be held no later than the end of 2017, however, according to many forecasts, could take place in 2016, the year. Cam Cameron said that the UK should stay in the EU, but subject to serious reform and renegotiation of the terms of membership of the United Kingdom. The requirements relate to four areas: competition, sovereignty, social policy and economic management. Meanwhile, European Council President Donald Tusk and other representatives of the European Union was rather skeptical about the prospects of meeting the requirements in Britain.
