MOSCOW, Jan 18 – RIA Novosti. The delegation of the Russian Federation decided not to participate in the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), told reporters the head of the Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Ties with Compatriots Leonid Slutsky.
“At the present time to the head of the PACE Anne Brasseur forwarded a letter signed by the Speaker of the House of the Russian Parliament that the credentials of the delegation of the Russian Federation for 2016 will be requested later. January session we will miss,” – he said Slutsky.
According to him, Russia will return to Strasbourg only on equal terms in the case of guarantees for the return of the delegation of powers. “As stated by State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin, we will not tolerate any discrimination and any sanctions against the Russian delegation are unacceptable,” – said Slutsky, who is the deputy head of the Russian delegation to the PACE.
At the end of January 2015 the PACE because of the situation in Ukraine adopted a resolution in which the delegation of the Russian Federation has deprived the right to vote, the right to participate in the work of statutory bodies and in the monitoring of elections. In response, the Russian delegation to the end of 2015 left the Assembly.
Earlier, the deputy of the State Duma, member of the Russian delegation in the Assembly Vassily Likhachev said that the format of the Russian delegation to the PACE January session is studied, a decision will be taken following consultation with State Duma deputies, members of the Federation Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Security Council.
