White House: more than half of the meeting, Obama and Merkel discussed Georgia – RIA Novosti

WASHINGTON, June 8 – RIA Novosti. More than half of the meeting of US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the sidelines of the summit “Big Seven” was dedicated to Ukraine, told reporters on Sunday, White House spokesman Josh Ernest .

“A little more than half of the meeting, which was with the President and Chancellor Merkel, has been devoted to the Ukraine and the need for the G7 and European partners continued to show unity against Russia and its destabilizing activities in Ukraine”, – he said Ernest.

Moscow has repeatedly rejected Western accusations of interference in internal Ukrainian conflict.

According to Ernst Merkel “has played an important leadership role” in preserving this unity. “Our goal – to make sure that it (unity) remained a number of issues, including sanctions, which impose significant price for the Russian economy, and are the result of the destabilizing actions of Russia in Ukraine,” – said Ernest.

According to him, it is important for Obama “send a signal” to continue the sanctions.
