MOSCOW, December 22 – RIA Novosti. Head of the audit of state contracts the Ministry of Defense of Russia Dmitry Shortage arrested in Moscow on charges of attempted bribery on a large scale, the newspaper “Kommersant”.
The lawyer declined to discuss the official newspaper with the criminal case of his client and stated that in the case there are other persons involved, including detainees. The Defense Ministry publication also does not comment on the situation with a shortage.
“According to investigators, he was part of a group of corrupt member of the military establishment and business intermediaries demanding kickbacks”, – writes “Kommersant”.
According to the publication, Military Investigation Department initiated a criminal case on bribery still October 15, initially it was an organized criminal group, whose activities were “aimed at taking bribes.” According to the investigation, it was composed of officials of the department of audit of state contracts and “other”, including civil, writes “Kommersant”. The same day, filed a separate case against a shortage – particularly of the attempt on a large bribe, the newspaper adds.According to “Kommersant”, the shortfall was detained Savelovsky Moscow court arrested him for two months, and on December 10 arrest extended for another three months. It adds the newspaper, the defense tried to challenge the arrest in Moscow City Court and requested to transfer the shortfall under house arrest or release on bail. But the second instance decided that he might abscond or “otherwise obstruct the proceedings” and left official custody, the newspaper writes.
The Department of audit of state contracts provides expert evaluation of the value of public contracts, determine their initial (maximum) price and monitors and analyzes the prices of purchased weapons. Shortage (38) led the Department in January 2015. Before that, he worked for ten years in the Ministry of Finance – Deputy Director of the Department of fiscal policy in the field of defense procurement, even earlier (1994-2003) served in the KGB.
