Times learned of the conversation with Merkel, British intelligence about Putin – RBC

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has shared information about Russian President Vladimir Putin with the British intelligence service found The Times. It happened at the meeting, which was organized during Merkel’s visit to London in October this year.

According to the publication, a briefing was held in the country residence of the British Prime Minister David Cameron. In addition to the Prime Minister it was also attended by the head of counterintelligence service MI5 Andrew Parker, head of the Foreign Intelligence British MI6 Alex Younger and Director of the Government Communications UK Robert Hannigan.

At the meeting, representatives of the security services shared with Merkel information on the activities of the “Islamic State “(banned in Russia). According to the newspaper, they were useful to the German Chancellor. In particular, she said, the threat of the IG is to European countries as well as the shared data on the fighting in Syria and Iraq foreigners.

In return, Merkel gave special services “useful” information about Russian President Vladimir Putin and the situation in the Ukraine, according to the newspaper. The publication notes that these politicians have close relations. What kind of information has provided the Chancellor, is not specified. “They [the participants] had a long discussion about Syria and Russia,” – a source told The Times in Cameron machine.

In October, Merkel and Cameron agreed to maintain sanctions against Russia to the full implementation of the Minsk Agreement. The leaders also discussed the situation in Syria and the question of Britain’s membership in the European Union.

In early December, Merkel became the first woman in 30 years, named man of the year by the magazine Time. Magazine explained his choice by the fact that, thanks to the Chancellor of Europe was able to overcome the Greek crisis and deal with the situation of migrants. Putin also hit the short-list of candidates for the title Person of the Year.
