MOSCOW, January 12 – RIA Novosti. Most of the victims of the terrorist attack on Sultanahmet Square in the historic heart of Istanbul, which claimed Tuesday the life of 10 people, according to preliminary data, are citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany. We also know that among the 15 wounded – tourists from Peru, Germany, Norway, South Korea. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan called the explosion a terrorist attack on the area of Sultanahmet, which carried out a suicide bomber from Syria. Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that the explosion – the work of “Islamic state.” After the attack the Turkish authorities imposed a ban on the publication of information about the explosion in the media.

A powerful bomb exploded Tuesday morning near the Sultanahmet Square, next to the tram stop at the moment when there was a group of tourists.
Sultanahmet – the most popular tourist area in the old part of Istanbul, located on the European side of the city on a promontory between the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus Strait and the Sea of Marmara. The name comes from the eponymous region Sultanahmet Mosque, known to tourists as the Blue Mosque, located on the square in the center of the district. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the explosion in Istanbul’s historic center terrorist attack that has carried out suicide bomber from Syria.
