Obama called on Congress to lift the trade embargo against Cuba – Rosbalt.RU

US President Barack Obama called on Congress to lift the economic embargo of Cuba, which is a vestige of “Cold War”.

This is stated in his annual address “State of the Union”, which Obama addressed the US Congress. The text distributed in advance to the White House.

“Do you want to strengthen our leadership and our credibility in the Western Hemisphere? Then recognize that the Cold War is over. Remove the embargo,” – Obama said, recalling that last year the United States and Cuba restored diplomatic relations.

Earlier it was reported that the United States and Cuba have agreed to resume regular air flights. The sides expressed mutual understanding and readiness to resume flights, but the agreement has not yet been signed. According to sources, an agreement was reached on December 16 in Washington.
