The speaker of the European Parliament Martin Schulz criticized the actions of the new leadership of Poland. In an interview with the German edition of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, he said that Warsaw’s policy is based on the Russian model. The amendments to the Law on Television and Radio Broadcasting Duda signed on 7 January. New legislative provisions include, inter alia, the premature end of the term of office of the members of the Management Board and the Supervisory Boards of Polish public television (TVP), and the Polish Radio (Polskie Radio). In addition, the new law abolishes the possibility of competition for these positions – from now on the members of the Management Board and Supervisory Board will appoint a Minister of the Treasury of Poland.

The new law has provoked a wave of protests across the country. January 9 in more than ten cities Poles took to the streets with the slogan “Free media!”, Reports “Radio Poland” Protests were held in Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Lublin, Lodz and other cities. The organizer of the shares became public organization “Committee to protect democracy”, which was established at the end of November 2015. After Duda signed amendments to the media law, the head office of the president Malgorzata Sadurski said that the head of state “will follow, for it is very important that the public media were impartial towards all political forces, and that objective information is not mixed with the comments.”
