Poland’s Defense Ministry is considering the possibility of recourse to NATO with a request to place on the territory of nuclear weapons. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Defence of Poland Tomasz Shatrovskii, reports Associated Press.

The Alliance has a program under which the nuclear powers – NATO members may be positioned part of its nuclear weapons in allied countries. According Shatrovskoye, the Defense Ministry is discussing whether to request access to the program of nuclear sharing within NATO to strengthen their defense.

As the Associated Press, the Polish media, commenting on Saturday saying deputy defense minister, indicated that the Polish official for the first time said publicly its intention to ask NATO to place nuclear weapons.

Among the 28 members of the alliance have three nuclear powers – the United States, France and Britain. But the United States is providing allies nuclear weapons. As part of the nuclear weapons on its territory have placed Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey.

Earlier, on December 2, US Ambassador to Poland, Paul Jones, said that the United States will begin construction of the base, which is an element of missile defense system in Poland in the spring of 2016. He said that the facility will be ready in 2018. “Construction of the missile defense shield in Redzikowo, in Pomerania, will begin in spring 2016″ – then said the ambassador.

In November, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow will work on the development of attack systems that can overcome any missile defense system. In mid-June, the head of state said that Russia will send shock forces threatening its territory. “If someone threatens our security, we will have to focus our strike force and funds to those areas from which the threat”, – the president said then.
