British Crown Prosecution Service is preparing to bring charges against a former Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky on suspicion of manufacturing and possession of indecent photographs of children.
At the heart of the charges were the results of an investigation conducted by the police Cambridgeshire. Bukovsky was suspected in five cases and five cases of manufacturing storage indecent images of children.
At the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the BBC Russian Service that the notification was transmitted lawyer Vladimir Bukovsky on Monday morning.
The very first Bukovsky said on the phone with the Russian service Bi BBC that first hears about the existence of such suspicions. But then his assistant confirmed that documents from the prosecutor’s office have indeed been received, and sent a statement of human rights activist.

“I categorically deny the production of obscene or illegal photos, videos or faked children. In fact, I have had no contact with any children at all for many years, “- said in a statement signed by Bukovsky.
” These shocking accusations caught me in the period serious illness, and the chances of cure me completely uncertain. Nevertheless, I intend with all the energy to defend itself against all the accusations brought against me, “the statement said Bukovsky.
” Because of the state of health, and also due to the need to consult with a lawyer, I can not give any whatsoever interview and to comment on the case until further notice from me “- concludes his statement Bukovsky.
In a statement, the prosecutor’s office says that Bukovsky should appear at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on May 5.
72-year-old Bukovsky was one of the founders of the dissident movement in the Soviet Union.
In 1976, the Soviet authorities exchanged Bukovsky on the leader of the Chilean Communists Luis Corvalan.
Statement by the Crown Prosecution Service
Jenny Hopkins, chief prosecutor of the Crown Prosecution Service UK East Anglia, said: “Based on the results of the investigation police Cambridgeshire we concluded that there was sufficient evidence for criminal prosecution of Vladimir Bukovsky in connection with the manufacture and possession of indecent images of children. It is argued that these images are as defined in categories A, B and C, provided the recommendations of the Board of sentencing “.
” The decision to to prosecute was taken in accordance with the code of the Crown Prosecution Service, “- said in a statement.
Vladimir Bukovsky handed the summons to the court on the following charges:
- five counts of production of obscene pictures of the child, in violation of Section 1 (a) of the Law on Protection of Children in 1978, prior to October 28, 2014;
- Five counts in possession of indecent photographs of children in violation of Section 160 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, for the period up to 28 October 2014;
- one count of possession of forbidden image, in violation of Section 62 (1) of the Coroners and Justice in 2009.
According to Jenny Hopkins, Vladimir Bukovsky appear before Cambridge magistrates’ court May 5, 2015.
“I would like to remind everyone that Mr. Bukovsky has the right to a fair trial. It is vital that before the trial in print or in a boarding school did not appear materials and comments that might call into question the proceedings, “- said the representative of the Crown Prosecution Service.
